The employee shall provide Support Services for electrical maintenance, overhaul and upkeep of small boats for the USCG. The candidate must be able to support services for nonsupervisory work involving the dismantling, repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installing of a wide variety of marine electrical equipment and systems. The service is for systems such as marine electrical components, propulsion support systems, etc. The work requires a practical working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic marine systems.
This includes detailed knowledge of the operating characteristics of the involved machinery, equipment, and systems; their functional relationships; the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices; and the unique environmental conditions under which work is performed aboard marine craft, for example, the lack of space between bulkheads and decks and the proximity of one type of machinery to another.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Familiar with DC Systems and schematics
- Collaborate with a team performing mechanical and electrical repairs and/or maintenance on USCG vessels.
- Must be able to perform independently to accomplish tasks.
- Performs equipment and component assessments and repairs. Be able to identify failures and potential failures.
Be able to assess the condition of boat and components
- Perform repairs and replacements of small boat sponson collar systems
- Perform all manner of electrical repairs and replacements of trailer components.
- Perform cableway management with professional appearance.
- Clean and preserve electrical circuits
- Perform regular schedule boat maintenance to include the following: electrical testing, cleaning, and programming
- Perform highly skilled electrical troubleshooting and be familiar with Voltmeter, Load tester, Megameter, Ammeter, and Bird Meter
- Must be able to perform troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and replacement of a wide variety of Marine electrical components, exp. VHF/UHF systems, crew communications, radar equipment, sirens, AIS, all engine devices, and all other vessel electronics
- Cleaning/ safety gear
- Conduct operational testing and quality inspections: Conduct operational testing on the boat prior to delivery.
- Maintenance Procedure Card processing
- Ordering parts
- Managing progress and ensuring the work is performed correctly and on time, according to USCG standards, per contractual guidelines.
- Informing management of progress status and requirements.
- Must be capable of operating a forklift safely
Desired Skills and Abilities:
- ABYC Marine Electrical Certification
- Familiar with NEMA 2000
- Transport boat using company provided vehicle to pick up and deliver boats to and from client locations around the continental US.
- Must be able to launch and recover boats for testing and evaluation
Job Qualifications:
- Must have High School Diploma.
- Must be able to read and interpret Navel Engineering Drawings.
- Must have current USCG approved boating course certification.
- Requires experience using various Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Prior experience with RHIB for federal or USCG boats is desirable.
- Must attain a valid TWIC Card
- Must provide a clean driving record.
- Must provide your own tools and tool box.
Experience:
- Marine Electrical: 4 years (Required)
Travel:
- Travel is required for this position. Travel will occur up to 10% of the time. Full per diem and company paid travel is provided.
Security:
- Must pass a standard background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in an office, industrial, or shipboard environment.
- Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature.
- Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
Place of Performance:
- This task shall be performed in the Industrial Park Area in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at our boat warehouse and repair facility.
